One of the victims of the Rabaa al-Adawiya massacre was killed by a gunshot. The bullet was fired by joint forces of the Egyptian army and police during the dispersal of the Rabaa al-Adawiya sit-in. These forces used excessive and lethal force against civilian protesters, deploying armored vehicles and military bulldozers to the perimeter and entrances of the sit-in and firing live ammunition indiscriminately and directly at the protesters. This included sniper fire from surrounding buildings, as well as the use of firearms from elevated positions and helicopters flying overhead. This resulted in a large number of civilian deaths and injuries. According to estimates by human rights organizations and independent reports, approximately 1,200 protesters were killed and about 4,400 others were injured, making it one of the largest mass killings of protesters in modern Egyptian history.
